Editorial Policy

This page explains how content on MyNighttime is researched, written, and kept current. We publish it so you can judge our advice the same way we'd want you to judge anyone's โ€” by knowing where it comes from.

Who Writes Our Content

Articles are written and edited by the MyNighttime editorial team. We are editors and researchers, not clinicians โ€” nothing on this site is medical advice, and we say so explicitly wherever an article touches on health topics that warrant a doctor's input (supplement dosing, pregnancy, existing medical conditions).

How We Source Claims

  • Occupational health guidance โ€” we reference agencies like the CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for claims about shift work health effects and workplace guidance.
  • Sleep science โ€” claims about circadian rhythm, melatonin, and sleep hygiene are checked against established sleep-medicine sources such as the Sleep Foundation and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and against peer-reviewed research where a specific claim warrants it.
  • Practical/logistical content (schedules, career advice, dating, budgeting) draws on general best practice and the lived experience of the shift-work community rather than a single authoritative source โ€” we say so where that's the case, rather than dressing up opinion as research.

Where we cite a specific external source, we link to it directly in the article rather than just naming it, so you can check the claim yourself.

Updates and Corrections

Articles carry a publish date, and we add an "Updated" date when we make a meaningful revision โ€” not for typo fixes, but when we add new information, correct a claim, or substantially expand a page. If you find an error, factual or otherwise, please contact us โ€” we read every message and correct mistakes when they're confirmed.

How We Make Money

MyNighttime is supported by advertising. Advertising has no influence on what we write, how we rank recommendations, or which claims we make โ€” editorial and advertising are kept separate.
